The Damsel in Distress (DiD) situation is very common in the west.
There’s a good deal of role-play involved. The idea is that the girl has been tied up (and gagged, usually) against her will - kidnapped, or she disturbed a burglar, etc.. She struggles furiously but can’t free herself. Sometimes she may be rescued, but if the rescuer is another woman she’ll probably get found out and tied up herself...
Although modern Japanese Bondage developed from methods used to capture and restrain prisoners (presumably unwilling!), that’s an element that has just about disappeared from shibari / kinbaku.
There are a lot of possibilities in applying eastern rope techniques to western DiD scenarios!
